About the team

Financial Planning supports the business to meet its financial targets, supporting Business decisions and providing meaningful reporting and commentary to its Customers.


About the job

The role will be to support the Engineering team within GWR to provide them with timely, quality information and commentary to understand their financial performance. The role will also be responsible for assisting with the creation of accurate budgets, forecasts and periodic expenditure analysis.


What you'll be doing

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Providing accurate and timely reporting, MI and supporting commentary to the Engineering and Financial Planning team within GWR
  • To produce and further develop full management reporting for Engineering financial analysis including detailed forecasting
  • Provide meaningful commentary and insights on the reporting provided
  • Assist the Financial Planning Department at period end on various aspects of the Profit and Loss account and Balance sheet, including accruals and prepayments
  • Assist with the Budget and Forecast Process for GWR
  • Assist with the Year End audits


About you

You'll need to be:

  • A keen self-starter currently studying for your accountancy qualification, ideally a finalist or newly qualified
  • A good communicator, both written and verbal, with an ability to distil complex information
  • Be commercially astute
  • Detail focused
  • Used to working to and achieving tight deadlines
  • Willing to progress and develop
  • Flexible


As a minimum you'll need to have:

  • Previous experience of establishing and maintaining relationships with internal customers and stakeholders
  • Studying for an accountancy qualification, CIMA or ACCA or newly qualified
  • Good Excel skills
  • Use of accounting systems (SAP and BI are desirable)
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Prior experience of working in a finance environment.

Working Pattern:

37 hrs per week. There will be some travel involved to meet with internal customers across the whole network.
