ACMS Development Manager

About the team

This role sits within the Head of Operations Department, who is responsible for developing and maintaining the competence requirements of our operational staff against a robust suite of operational procedures. Plus being at the forefront of the safety validation for the many changes happening to the GWR infrastructure and trains. The teams aim is to strive for continual improvement through development of staff and processes.

About the job

The ACMS database is GWR's competence management system for drivers, guards and dispatchers and also holds information relating to incidents and investigations. This role is required to lead and develop the ACMS database to the highest level and to liaise with the developer to maintain the smooth and efficient management of all procedures within the ACMS database and other functionalities.

What you'll be doing

Your main responsibilities will be:

• Ensuring all information is managed and kept updated for all colleagues within the database
• Liaising with, and supporting managers and their teams in the accurate and effective use of the database, ensuring consistency
• Work with the ACMS developer to ensure the ACMS database is maintained and developed into a strategic business system
• Monitor and audit the effectiveness of and adherence to operational standards
About you

You'll need to be:

• A strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communications skills to engage with colleagues at all levels within the business.
• A flexible approach to work and the ability to learn / adapt to change are essential. You must be prepared to work to tight deadlines and have a determination to succeed.
• You will have proven organisational skills, together with the ability to manage people and situations effectively. You must also be self-motivated, committed to delivering quality results with minimum supervision and able to use your initiative appropriately.
• Ability to compile reports clearly and concisely with excellent standard of literacy.
• The ability to work methodically and create / maintain current accurate records with an eye on detail is also essential.
As a minimum you'll need to have:

• Demonstrable line management experience
• Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building
• Ability to work under pressure and cope with competing and changing demands
• Excellent IT skills, experience of MS Office and ability to manage projects
• It would be an advantage if you had experience of database development and a proven track record of driving improvement to systems and procedures

About the location:

The position will be based in GWR Head Office, Milford House, Swindon which is located a short walk away from Swindon station.

Working Pattern:

The working pattern is office hours but travelling across the GWR network will be required and, on some occasions, staying away in hotels.

Additional Information:

Flexibility is required to travel across the GWR network, including ad-hoc lodgings where necessary
