Operations Manager (9462)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to lead our Bolton depot in Greater Manchester. Managing a multi-site operation including the award winning guided busway Vantage service, this role calls for an individual with exceptional drive and superb people skills.

As the Operations Manager you will be accountable for all aspects of operational performance for the depot. You will be a champion of our customers, the post holder will build and maintain a customer-centric culture.

You will support your team in delivering excellent customer experience, while leading a governance agenda that supports legislative and policy compliance. Through leadership, the Operations Manager will establish and develop an engaged, talented and high performing operations team, nurturing an innovative and continuous improvement culture.

The Operations Manager will work within and embed the divisional governance framework set by the Operations Steering Group, ensuring that standard operational policies and procedures are adopted within the depot.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the depot operations team to consistently deliver a safe and reliable service to customers
  • Manage staff and other operational costs within budget
  • Work with the Training function to ensure that operational teams are competently trained, and to achieve agreed establishment requirements
  • Support the Service Performance Team to foster excellent working relationships with drivers, enabling a consistent customer experience
  • Maintain accurate records for all aspects of operational standards and performance
  • Leverage technology, processes and business systems to improve operational performance
  • Proactively manage trade union relationships, including supporting the negotiation of any changes to terms and conditions

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Proven leadership skills are essential to provide strategic and day to day direction to your team and be an effective manager of collective relationships in a unionised environment
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills
  • Excellent customer service focus
  • A team builder and driver of high performance teams
  • Certificate of Professional Competence in Passenger Transport would be desirable. A willingness to study for CPC is essential
  • A passion for safety and driving to deliver a high performing safety behavioural culture
  • Budgetary and financial experience with a capability in logical system analysis to communicate results in formats comprehensible to all disciplines
  • Ability in endorsing commitment to set long/short-term objectives
  • Mentoring/coaching skills in the progression of the deliverables of the business
  • Self-reliant and straightforward communicator with skill sets to promote the customer facing business, in a positive light with the capacity to inspire in a structured and encouraging way
  • Aptitude to build and maintain stakeholder relations, indicative of a professional leader
  • Capacity to manage and commute between multi-site operations, providing cover when required
