Location: UK Flexible – Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield or Glasgow preferred

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000

 

First Bus' Head of Engineering Quality & Efficiency is looking to recruit an Engineering Quality Manager, on a permanent basis, who will be accountable for continuously improving quality and policy compliance across the engineering/maintenance functions of the Bus Division.

 

You'll be providing expertise, to the First Bus Engineering and Safety Steering Groups, to ensure that teams are best positioned to support delivery of the First Bus Strategy, within the divisional framework.

 

What are the key accountabilities for this role?

  • Provide training and coaching to local maintenance teams to increase understanding of quality control and improve compliance across the organisation.
  • Lead incident investigations relating to maintenance quality standards and present reports, detailing findings and recommendations.
  • Using lean principles to identify, validate and implement new opportunities for improved performance, efficiency, and profitability in a sustained manner.
  • Work with colleagues across the business to develop standard systems and procedures and embed a culture of sharing best practice and continuous improvement to improve the customer experience.
  • Develop effective measures, business indicators and tools to give Managing Directors and the Senior Executive team effective business visibility of engineering quality management; prepare and present supporting data and reports.
  • Work alongside the H&S team to ensure the safe management of engineering.
  • Support engineering and procurement quality and efficiency improvement programmes.
  • Business lead on engineering quality related projects.
  • Custodian of the engineering quality management audit and compliance framework; ensure that controls are in place to manage and mitigate risk, providing assurance of compliance.
  • Form and maintain effective communications and reporting arrangements both within the central functions and operating company teams.
  • Liaise with and influence industry partners, suppliers and enforcement bodies on key business issues, ensuring positive stakeholder relationships are maintained.

 

What will you need to be considered?

The successful candidate is likely to have a recognised qualification in a Quality and have experience in Quality Management implementation within a technical/maintenance environment. It would be advantageous to be a member of Chartered Quality Institute (or equivalent) and have a qualification and/or experience with Lean implementation.

 

Experience in conducting compliance investigations, with an understanding of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methods, such as 5Why, is preferable as would be an understanding of statistical analysis methods. Someone who's managed maintenance depots/workshops would be of interest, particularly if you've had exposure to the bus sector.

 

This role will include extensive travel across the UK & Ireland, so you'll need to be flexible to cater for this.
