Engineering Chargehand

We are looking for flexible and motivated Engineering Chargehands to join us in Chelmsford.

Do you have HGV or PCV maintenance experience? Do you have supervisory experience? Are you confident in guiding and motivating teams? If yes this Engineering Chargehand position could be for you!

As an Engineering Chargehand you will carry out the day to day supervisory aspect of the engineering function and the various administrative tasks associated with SAP System.

The salary for this position is £36,500 per annum (£18.02 per hour) and the working hours are 39 per week.

Your main duties will include the following:

  • In line with standard policies and procedures, supervise the maintenance and servicing of the fleet, ensuring vehicles comply with all statutory regulations
  • Induct and develop an engaged, talented and high performing engineering team
  • Efficiently allocate planned and unplanned work across the engineering team, including covering on the day absence
  • Ensure the availability of vehicles in line with operational requirements
  • Support the Stores Manager to ensure optimum management of stock and accurate and timely processing of warranty claims
  • Maintain accurate records for all aspects of engineering standards and performance, including fleet and environmental management
  • Ensure a comprehensive hand-over and coordination across shifts
  • Conduct any disciplinary, grievance or absence management reviews in accordance with Company policy
  • Work alongside depot operational and engineering team members, fostering excellent working relationships to effectively manage all aspects of service performance, including vehicle allocation, breakdowns, changeovers and punctuality and reliability of services

Who are we looking for?

  • You will have a minimum level 3 NVQ standard or equivalent (i.e. City & Guilds level 1 & 2). 
  • It is essential for you to have HGV or PCV maintenance experience

As an Engineering Chargehand you will have to be fully conversant with the safe operation of workshop equipment including, hydraulic vehicle lifts, pressurised oil and waste systems, battery chargers and starters, trolley jacks, scaffolding, pressure wash and automatic washing equipment, headlamp alignment tester, hydraulic jacks and testing equipment, drilling machine, torque wrenches, pedestal grinders and general portable equipment.

You must be in the possession of, or capable of obtaining a full PCV licence and forklift truck licence if required
