Operations Summer Intern – First Bus (8911)

What does the role involve?

As a Bus Operations Intern, you'll join one of our operations team in a relevant large Operating Company in the UK at one of our depots. Here, you'll work alongside the Operational Directors, Managers and other colleagues to help the operational teams continually improve performance.

  • Working to implement the Operational Excellence, Performance Improvement Framework model, supporting the work being done to progress towards ultimately achieving gold standard.
  • Introducing and embedding standard operational processes and share best practice at all OpCo's/Depots in UK Bus.
  • Support the teams towards year on year improvements on key performance indicators.

Additional to your line manager's support, over the summer you'll also have the support of the Director of Operational Improvement as your mentor.

Who are you looking for and what qualifications are needed?

We aren't strict with our entry criteria, there's only a few things we feel are essential to be successful in gaining a place as a Bus Operations Intern. You will need:

  • To be on track to achieve at least a 2:1 in any degree subject.
  • The passion, enthusiasm and curiosity to understand how the business operates and the ability to align yourself with the business goals and values.
  • To show potential strategic awareness with the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and collaborate with your colleagues.
  • A real customer focus, ensuring best customer experience is at the heart of everything you do.
  • A focus on safety and the importance of ensuring safety for yourself, the customer and your colleagues.

Where will the role be located?

We will do our best to place you in a depot closest to your home or university but as ours is an industry that's always on the move, we need you to be flexible about where you will be located.  Our main aim is to place you at a depot where you can undertake meaningful tasks that will add to your CV ensure you obtain as much exposure as possible to our industry.

What will you receive in terms of development?

As well as a competitive pro-rata salary, travel and other benefits, you will be set objectives that will stretch and enhance your skills. To support you in the delivery of these objectives, you will have regular meetings with your Line Manager, contact with a mentor and have regular catch-ups with a current graduate – acting as a buddy.

We will also offer some formal training along the way so that at the end of your internship, should you have done a great job, we may be in a position to offer you a place on one of next year's graduate programmes.

How will you be selected?

Following completion of your application you will be asked to complete our online tests. Then, if successful you will be invited to undertake a video interview.

Assessments will take place on in March 2019, and if shortlisted, we will let you know in good time to make appropriate arrangements to attend.

Successful candidates will be starting on 10th June 2019.
